What makes a mobile adventure actually stay with you
The adventure games I remember aren't the ones with the most content. They're the ones with mood. Hollow Lantern has stuck with me for weeks, and it's not even a long game.
Good adventures trust you. They scatter clues in notes and objects and let you connect them yourself, instead of pointing a giant arrow at the solution. That trust is what makes a discovery feel earned.
Sound design matters more than people admit. Playing Hollow Lantern with headphones turned a nice game into an unforgettable one. The fog, the distant foghorn, the creak of the lighthouse stairs all did the work the graphics couldn't.
My one tip: play adventures slowly, ideally at night, without the autopilot of chasing objective markers. These games reward attention, and attention is exactly what we don't usually give our phones.
