Games that fit a commute but still feel deep

August 1, 2026 · Marta Kowalczyk

Most of my mobile gaming happens in fragments: a tram ride, a queue, the ten minutes before a meeting. The games I love most are the ones that respect those fragments.

Coin Strike is a perfect example of short-and-sharp. One run fits in a few minutes but leaves you itching for another. On the other end, Hollow Lantern proves you can have depth in short bursts too, because it saves cleanly and lets you pick up exactly where you left off.

The trick is state. A game that forgets where you were, or punishes you for pausing, isn't built for real life. The good ones treat interruption as normal rather than as failure.

If you're building a library for commutes, mix one quick-session game with one slow-burn story. One for when you're alert, one for when you want to disappear into something.
