Coin Strike: a tiny arcade game that got its hooks in me
I installed Coin Strike expecting to delete it within an hour. That's usually how it goes with these simple arcade games. Instead it quietly became my go-to when I had three minutes to spare, and then somehow my go-to when I had an hour too.
The core idea is dead simple: flick coins across a board and land them on marked tiles to build combos. What makes it work is the physics. A light tap sends a coin gliding, a harder swipe snaps it across the board, and learning to read those arcs is the whole game. Once it clicks, you start pulling off shots that genuinely surprise you.
The difficulty curve deserves a mention. Later stages add tilted boards and moving targets, but they're introduced one at a time, so you're always adjusting one new variable instead of being overwhelmed. I never hit that wall where an arcade game just gives up on being fair.
My advice for newcomers: don't rush. The timer feels tighter than it is, and panic-flicking is how you lose. Line up the easy tiles first, then go for the risky combo chains once you're comfortable. Also play with sound on, because the little chime when a coin lands clean is weirdly satisfying.
It's not a game with a story or hundreds of hours of content, and it doesn't pretend to be. It's a tight, well-tuned arcade game that respects your reflexes, and on a phone that's exactly what I want.
